Caterpillars & Butterflies

From caterpillars to butterflies........ The reception children have been watching some caterpillars grow and grow before they finally transformed last week into chrysalides. On returning to school this morning, found they had all hatched into beautiful 'Painted Lady' butterflies. They released them this afternoon, watched by Year 1.

Outdoor Curriculum (6th June 2014)

This morning, in the beautiful sunshine, the children made bubble snakes!

Hengistbury Head Trip (May 2014)

The children had a fantastic time on their trip to Hengistbury Head. They built sandcastles on the beach, did pond dipping, explored the secret garden looking for mini beasts, had a picnic and and ice-lolly and finished it all off with a ride on the noddy train!

Outdoor Curriculum (29th April 2014)

We have been looking at the art of Stone Balancing (Adrian Gray). We went outside and collected stones of various shapes and sizes so that we could have a go ourselves. We made stone sculptures in 3's and then individually. We learnt about 'balancing' and 'gravity' and had great fun working together!

For more information about Stone Balancing, visit www.stonebalancing.com.

RF had to improvise due to adverse weather conditions!

Bigger Chicks! (April 2014)

Take a look at how much the chicks have grown!

Chicks! (March 2014)

The Reception children (and adults) have been very excited to have had eggs hatching in their classroom. The whole school was able to watch chicks hatching via a webcam and there are certainly more visitors now as everyone wants to see our lovely, fluffy chicks. The Reception children have been watching them, stroking them and even measuring them with unifix cubes!

Arts Week and World Book Day (March 2014)

As part of this themed week in school, the children have been very busy recreating a book in the style of Eric Carle.

"I hear a ....... I see a....." completing sentences and making a collage of their chosen animal. They then did their own independent design of a hungry caterpillar on a leaf.

We were visited by a storyteller who told us the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. 2 children were chosen to be the sun and the moon and we all crawled inside a very large caterpillar and brought him to life.
