CLASS OF 2014/15

Scarecrows!

Reception have been making scarecrows this week, to keep the birds off the plants they have grown. We used canes, grass we collected from the field and old school uniform.

Trip to Kingston Maurward Gardens and Animal Park

Reception had a great trip this week to Kingston Maurward, we learnt lots of different facts about animals and plants. All the children were so well behaved and we have a fantastic day. We all slept well that night!

Chicks

Reception have enjoyed more learning with the chicks this week.  They measured them with unifix blocks and rulers.  Everyone is surprised at how quickly the chicks have grown.

Tadpoles

Due to the Easter holidays the Reception children put their tadpoles back into the school pond.  We are looking forward to spotting lots of frogs next term.

Nest building

The children worked together to build nests.  They tried to keep one hand in their pocket and use their other hand like a beak to show how hard birds work to build their nests.  Some nests were built for very, very big birds!

Chicks !

Hip, hip, hooray!  The reception children and staff are so pleased that their chicken eggs have started to hatch.  Two chicks had hatched while the children were at school on Wednesday, with seven more showing clear signs of ‘pipping’.

A few days old!

What do you do when it snows?

Have fun and learn how to build a snowman!

Mud Kitchen!

Our reception children have been enjoying their new mud kitchen.  Learning about recipes and how many spoonfuls or cupfuls they need.

Dinosaur Hunt

The Reception classes have been finding out all about dinosaurs.  They had a drama session in the hall and then found footprints outside their classrooms.  They followed these all the way across the field until they found a nest of eggs.  They have been trying to predict what may be inside the eggs.  They should ‘hatch’ next week!

We have also been practising our reading using a dinosaur egg game http://www.ictgames.com/dinosaursEggs/index.html

Christmas Nativity Performance

The Reception children learnt lots of songs, words and moves for their Christmas Nativity.

Everyone was very proud of them.

Rockets !

In Reception we have been learning all about Space.  We had lots of questions such as: Why does Saturn have rings?  How do astronauts live in a spaceship?  What is gravity?  Why do some planets light up?  How does a rocket take off?

We have made our own rockets and meteors, we have weighed meteors and we even launched a rocket on the field.  We have seen a video of an astronaut making a sandwich and have found out that astronauts need to wear a seat belt to go to the toilet because there is no gravity.

'Stick Man'

Reception listened to ‘Stick Man’ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler.  They then went to the woods to collect sticks and built their own stick men.  Afterwards they collected all the sticks together and built one giant stick man with a smiling face and very straight toes!

Home Learning Samples

Here are some samples of what you could do with your Reception children to support them with their sounds that they are learning at school.  The children can draw or cut and stick pictures and photographs in and either practise writing the letter shape or write labels for their pictures.

18th Sept - Outdoor Curriculum

RB went on their 1st outdoor learning walk to see what signs of autumn we could spot. We saw minibeasts, spiders, snails, slugs & even a small lizard!  We found toadstools in the forest and listened to the birds singing, it was a lovely afternoon.

RF have been for a walk around the school grounds.  We saw lots of big slugs, our school pond and our minibeast hotels.
