Mini Marathon - April 2015

To support Mrs Leaper’s training for the London Marathon 2015, Year 4 joined the whole school by participating in a school mini marathon. Children ran in small groups, relays or individually. It looks like we might have some future long distance runners ourselves…

Year 4 Aquasplash and East Dorset Swimming Gala - 4th March 2015

A selection of swimmers represented Parley First School at Ferndown Leisure at the above event. Eight children – Ellie, Sam, Freddie, Connor, Tyler, Millie, Ava and Lilly took part in the Aquasplash event, during which a number of small relay races took place.  These involved swimming with foam teddy bears and frogs, woggles and balls, and the children had lots of fun!  Parley came second overall in this event.

The main East Dorset Swimming Gala followed, with 12 children swimming for Parley.  There were individual races in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, where our representative competed against 7 other schools.  There were 2 ‘heats’ per race, and times were recorded to determine the winning school in each race.  Congratulations to Finn who was the overall individual breaststroke winner, who will now go on to represent East Dorset in the County finals in June.  Our other individual swimmers all beat their times recorded at our training sessions, so well done to Emelia, Alex, Elina and Liam.

The freestyle and mixed (medley) relays took place, and although they didn’t win their heats, our swimmers beat the fastest time in Heat 1. Well done to our relay swimmers – Maisie, Emelia, Olivia, Elina, Lily in the girls’ events and Jack, Alex, Callum, Harry, Liam, Finn and Toby in the boys’ relays.  Parley came a fantastic 3rd overall in the Swimming Gala.

Well done to every single swimmer who came and participated in the 2 events.

The children made poppies and found out some WW1 facts for their home learning.

Egyptian Week - Nov 2014

Year 4 have had an Egyptian themed week and have been doing a variety of activities including cooking, drama, building a Shaduf, performing an Egyptian dance, making pyramids and clay artwork. We loved the dressing up!

We also visited the Tutankhamun Exhibition in Dorchester to understand and learn more about life in Ancient Egypt.

Football Tournament - 21.10.14

Eighteen Year 4 girls and boys walked to Ferndown First School on Tuesday afternoon to take part in a mixed team football tournament .  The rain held off for most of the time, but the north wind did blow!  That didn’t dampen the spirits of our footballers, who played 2 games against Ferndown First School.   Congratulations to Finn C and Joshua for scoring our goals, which were made possible by super team efforts.  Both teams demonstrated tricky tackling and good passing skills.

Well done to  everyone who represented Parley.

Science - 'All About Teeth' (Sept 2014)

In Year 4 Science, pupils were learning where plaque usually collects on teeth. The children had to bring in a tooth brush and had a chance to take a disclosing tablet.
