Airplane Drama Day

All the children went on holiday last week and visited 4 European destinations. They boarded 4 different flights after going through passport control and customs and had inflight snacks specific to the country they were visiting. It was a fantastic learning experience!

Easter Egg Hunt

The children had lots of fun searching the field on an Easter Egg Hunt this morning.
Thanks to POPS for providing an egg for every child.

Bunny Scones!

The children had great fun making bunny scones today.

We hope they enjoyed eating them! Click here for the recipe.

Supporting Sports Relief

The children all came to school dressed in sports kit and took part in a fun obstacle course on a scooter! Thankyou for all your kind donations.

Despite the rain, the children had a fantastic trip to Marwell Zoo this week. They saw many animals and learned all about their different habitats.

Take a look at the slideshow below to see all the animals that we saw. Can you remember what they all are?

Do you know what all these animals are?

Design and Technology

Now that spring has arrived, the children have designed and made their own bird feeders.

World Book Day

The children have been learning all about authors, characters and sharing their favourite books. They finished off the week by coming to school dressed as their favourite book character.

We are learning all about Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong.  We had a debate to see if we could find out who we thought was the most important explorer.

We imagined what it would be like to be an explorer in different places.

We also had a visit from a real explorer, who amazed us with the stories of his travels and showed us some of the equipment he used when he went diving.

We have been learning all about algorithms
and learning to code using LightBot.

Click on the LightBot if you want to have a go at home.

Learning about Mass and Measuring

The children worked in groups to compare, describe and solve practical problems.

Science Boffins Day!

More pictures of our science assembly are in the whole school gallery.

Making and Decorating Gingerbread Houses

We created our own gymnastics routines and then judged each other!
We were focussing on 'Balance' and 'Jump'.

Celebrating and Sharing our Home Learning

A BIG Thankyou to Haskins, who kindly donated plants, for our Year 2 outside area.

The children had great fun planting and were very proud of their efforts.

Jolly Postman Vehicles!

We are learning all about the Jolly Postman story. We designed and made our own vehicles using skills such as painting, cutting, measuring, sticking and sawing!

We went on a walk to explore our local area and to post a letter.
Some of the children in Year 2 were asked “What makes Parley First School special?”
Here are some of their answers………

ICT - Using Bee-Bots and LearnPads to learn about coding
Science Experiment - what materials are waterproof?

Outdoor Curriculum - making maps of the school

"We got lots of things from outside. We remembered what the school looked like. We did Year 4 down to Reception. It was so fun."     by Kaitlyn and Megan B

Exploring Sensory Trays

Welcome to Year 2!

The children are settling well and we are looking forward to working with you and your children in Year 2.

We encourage the pupils to be as independent at school as possible, especially when organising their own belongings. Please help us and them to achieve this goal by ensuring everything you send to school is clearly named.

Children are encouraged to change their reading books as often as they need to and are given the opportunity during early bird sessions when they can choose their own books to take home. Children are also welcome to choose a book from the library which offers a wide range of texts.

Our first topic for this term is ‘The Jolly Postman’ which will see us explore a range of writing styles whilst learning about our immediate environment through mapping skills. We will also develop our mathematical strategies including number bonds to 10, using place value and adding 10. After half term our topic is ‘Food Glorious Food’. We will be thinking about traditional food and celebrations from countries and cultures around the world, as well as learning about where food comes from. For more details about our curriculum please see links at the top of this page. We will try to update this page throughout the year so look out for photos, key dates and activities.

We value our partnership with you very much. If you have any queries or worries, please do come and see us at the end of the day.

Thank you for your continued support,

Yours sincerely
