A variety of teaching methods are used in the school according to the subject, activity or task. In the course of a normal week, all children will have been taught individually, as part of a small group and as part of a larger group or class.

We believe that it is important for children to develop their social and emotional skills in their approach to learning.  To this end, many activities are planned in a way which encourages children to explore and develop their own ideas (e.g. problem solving in mathematics). This is balanced by more formal learning and teacher directed tasks. Each child will therefore experience a variety of challenging activities, matched to their individual needs.

Developing the key skills for learning is at the heart of everything we do. Reading is a focus for us as school and we use a variety of methods to develop reading across the school. The school uses a variety of commercial schemes that include Oxford and Pearsons as well as Collins to ensure children have a wide breadth of understanding. In early reading children will read a scheme called Jelly and Bean. More information can be found about these schemes by visiting their websites.

We also have daily guided reading sessions. These are direct teaching sessions from the class teacher or teaching assistant.

Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all learners across the school. We regularly question the design and relevance of the content for our children in an ever changing world. We have made use of our extensive grounds with an exciting and engaging outdoor learning curriculum. This is designed to enable children to apply and develop their key learning skills across all subject areas.
